Indonesia Earthquake Appeal

A couple of months ago Sumatra, the largest Indonesian island, with its untouched beaches, would have been on the top of your island summer holiday list. Now death, chaos, and devastation rule.

An earthquake, which measured 7.6 on the richter scale, struck off the coast of Sumatra on Wednesday, September 30, triggering landslides and fires and massive destruction. A second powerful earthquake struck on Thursday, causing further damage. At least 1,100 people have been killed, and thousands more are missing.

The earthquake brought down hundreds of buildings, including schools and hospitals, and the death toll is expected to rise over the coming hours and days. Thousands of people have been forced to live in temporary accommodation, such as mosques or schools.

Heavy rain is making conditions even worse with communication lines down and rescue teams battling. You’re probably thinking, ‘that's not good.’ Don’t just empathise, do something, it’s as easy as giving up the two pounds you would’ve spent on chicken and chips. All it takes is this.
