British people, bashful about sex?

There seems to be a stereotype of the British people in the eyes of other European people; an image of embarrassed and awkward, cold and distant parents, who refuse to engage in the 'sex' talk with their children, for fear of breaking 'boundaries. But is this really true? I mean,  if that is the case it certainly hasn't affected the teens of England who most definitely do not share the same embarrassment as that which is described above. Could the two be linked; this apparent (or is it indeed?) refusal to talk about what in other societies and cultures, is often praised and regularly comment on- Sex. Does this country's people really see this as a 'taboo' subject? Does this link to the overwhelming amount of teenage pregnancy. Could the solution to this problem be to 'open' up. Or indeed, does this 'problem', this awkwardness, exist?

We tend to trivialise things

We tend to trivialise things in the UK which means some fail to open up when we really need to. I reckon there are a lot more confused and lost teenagers trying to work out what they want from their lives and the obvious celebrity culture doesn't really help matters. This awkwardness does exist though and I know a lot of people who are too afraid to discuss their problems just because supposedly they feel society looks down on them. Do you really think this is predominantly a UK thing though? I'm not sure.
