"Even When The Earth Shakes, Hold On"
Wyclef dedicates his latest release to his disaster-striken homeland Haiti. Wyclef, 37, has became a regular celebrity face for appeals of disaster relief in Haiti in the last month, playing an integral part in hosting the charity telethon "Hope for Haiti Now" which has to date raised more than $66 million. In 2005, he set up his own foundation called the Yele Haiti Foundation to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Haiti.
While the foundation itself has recently been brought under the spotlight after some groups raised doubts about its accounting practices. Wyclef has since defended his charity from accusations that $2m received by Yele Haiti had gone into his own businesses.
Despite the criticism which appears to be unfounded, Wyclef appears steadfast and loyal in his commitment to the people of Haiti. 'Hold On' delivers a hopeful and optimistic message for the future generations.
While some of Wyclef's work has been held under scrutiny, he is to be awarded a NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) humantarian award next week for his efforts to help earthquake victims in Haiti. The award honours those whose work increases understanding and awareness of social and racial issues.
Wyclef calls us to go harder for Haiti. Despite all the politics or what Wyclef terms 'politricks', Haiti still needs us to walk alongside and to be the voice which reassures them to keeping holding on.
