India Floods
More than 800,000 people’s homes have been submerged in more than 1,500 villages. Thousands of homes have been lost and crops and livelihoods destroyed.

Currently more than 30,000 people have taken shelter in government-run relief camps while thousands have fled to local schools and community centres for safety. More than 150 villages are completely marooned, cut off from all relief efforts.

The flooding is the result of heavy rainfall in Nepal causing the river Ghaghra to burst its banks. However, it has also led to a steep rise in water levels in rivers throughout Uttar Pradesh and has affected up to 10 million people.

Our partners are already responding, assessing needs and delivering food and other relief supplies to communities most affected. Christian Aid is sending £50,000 to our partners CASA, Dynamic Action Group (DAG) and Poorvanchal Gramin Vikas Sansthan (PGVS) to assist them in their response.

Urgent needs include:
food, clean water and sanitation
mosquito nets to prevent malaria
cooking utensils
bedding and clothing

Pakistan Floods

Pakistan is experiencing its worst flooding in 80 years.

Over 1,600 have died and many more deaths are expected. 20 million people are affected as entire communities have been destroyed. The floods have demolished villages, roads and bridges, killed livestock and ruined fields and crops.

Christian Aid has sent £750,000 to help ACT Alliance partners respond. ACT Alliance will provide food, shelter and medical assistance to in excess of 200,000 people in Balochistan, Khyber Paktunkwa, Punjab and Sindh provinces.

However, much more is needed. People face starvation as food prices are set to increase dramatically, and the threat of waterborne diseases is much higher as many stranded communities cannot access healthcare and there is little safe drinking water.

West Africa Food Crisis
10 million people are facing severe food shortages across the Sahel, the belt of land that stretches across Africa, just south of the Sahara. Regular droughts and irregular harvests have led to seriously reduced food production.

More than 7 million people - over half the population - in Niger are at risk of going hungry, as well as communities in Burkina Faso, Chad, Nigeria and Mauritania. Imported food is available in the markets but is too expensive for the people most at risk to afford.

Your money will be used to deliver humanitarian assistance to the region through our partners in the form of:

- food and medical aid
- supporting and setting up cereal banks and food distribution
- create cash-for-work programmes so families can afford to buy cereal and grains in the markets

Haiti Earthquake
The United Nations called the earthquake in Haiti the worst disaster it has ever dealt with.
