It’s a big mission – trying to ensure every Ghanaian child is equipped with a basic tool kit – but Channel 4’s Battlefront [1] campaigner, 19 year old Vickie Wilson [2], is all up for this challenge: “To make this happen, I’m campaigning for local and national businesses to donate items of stationery that they no longer want or need. It’s said that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure; and for the children of Ghana that’s certainly true...”
Throughout her year-long campaign, titled ‘Give it up for Ghana’, Vickie will be telling Ctrl.Alt.Shift her story through a series of blogs, from her on-ground work to her trip to Ghana next year.
"It’s said that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure; and for the children of Ghana that’s certainly true...”
The grand scheme of Battlefront has brought past campaigns which ranged from ‘STOP: Gun and knife crime’ by Alexander Rose to ‘Anit-Cyberbullying’ by Al Henders; who both got to meet and involve cabinet ministers, and artists such as Tinchy Stryder to name a few. Vickie, along with 10 other campaigners [3] (soon to be 11) this year will hope to follow in their successful footsteps – and guess what – there’s still ONE place available!
Battlefront is on a hunt for a 12th member to join their young team of campaigners. Got a lot to shout about? Feel passionately about a subject you sense needs attention or change? Whatever your passion, dream or concern – whether it’s eliminating bullying in UK schools, or like Vickie, helping your peers in developing countries - this could be your chance to make a difference and take a stand.
If you‘ve got a campaign idea and a bit of sassy leadership character, then submit your application in now – all the info you need is here [4]; after submitting, your aim is then to get the Battlefront community involved and collect as many votes as possible. Votes are depending on your campaign mission, development and fundamentally propaganda.
Deadline for applications is 12pm on September 10, 2010. And the sooner you do it, the more time your campaign will have to collect votes!
Note: Voting closes at 12pm on September 24. Then all you have to do is wait for October 15 when the winner is announced.
And don’t forget, stay tuned for Vickie’s blogs right here…
