Voices of Freedom Week @ Rich Mix

To celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Sunday the 17th of January and the one year anniversary of Barack Obama’s inauguration on Tuesday the 20th of January, Rich Mix presents a week of special events encompassing theatre, film, spoken word and live music.

Learn about the lives of the controversial and influential Black Nationalist leaders on both sides of the Atlantic: Malcolm X and Michael X; be inspired as internationally acclaimed author Ben Okri reads from his 2009 collection Tales of Freedom; hear the extraordinary stories of refugees and exiles from all over the word in Elizabeth Mansfield’s play The Uninvited; listen to the clarion cry of an unprecedented gathering of scintillating supranational superbards at Michael Horovitz’ All-Star Poetry Olympics Superjam; and be stirred by Mercury/MOBO award winning saxophonist Denys Baptiste’s Let Freedom Ring, a piece inspired by the spirit of Dr Martin Luther King’s momentous 'I Have A Dream' speech.
