The monsoon floods in Pakistan are yet another stark reminder (as if we need any more) of how vulnerable the world's poorest communities are to natural disasters.

Write to the UK government and get climate justice.

Countries in the west need to act now to prevent what will inevitably become an even worse situation for many developing countries in the near future.

Natural disasters like those in Pakistan and the food crisis in Africa are likely to become more and more intensified because of climate change: longer droughts, more intense storms, worse floods.

It’s usually poor people who are affected most when natural disasters strike and the injustice is that they’ve done least to create the problem. Climate justice means recognising this and getting rich countries to cut their carbon emissions.

The new UK government has pledged to be the greenest yet. Ctrl.Alt.Shift wants to make sure it lives up to its promise.

UK-listed companies are responsible for 12-15% of global carbon emissions. We need to make it law that these companies measure and report their carbon emissions. That would mean the UK could start genuinely reducing its emissions, one of the main causes of global warming.

Calls for compulsory reporting of emissions are getting stronger all the time.

People in poor countries are already suffering the devastating impacts of climate change.

The coalition government has committed to be the greenest government ever. I’m writing to ask you to demonstrate that commitment this year.

UK-listed companies are responsible for 12-15% of global carbon emissions. In 2007/8 more than 60,000 Christian Aid supporters called for the mandatory reporting of companies’ emissions to be included in the Climate Change Act.

This year you have the power to make this a reality.
