Platform2 volunteers visited the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, on Tuesday November 9, to take part in Politics of Poverty; a session set up to voice their concerns about global issues to climate change and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) experts.

"Young people need to know that we can make a change, and that we have a political influence..."

Three P2 volunteers, Sharon Natt, Sadiq Miah and Zamzam Ibrahim, were chosen to address the panel, which included Mark Lazarowicz MP, Shadow Spokesman for International Development; Deborah Doane, Director of World Development Movement and Daniel Vockins, Campaign Manager at 10:10. The Question Time format event was hosted by Channel 4 News Presenter, Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

75 young people in total, from Platform2, MADE in Europe (who work with young Muslims), and Tzedek (who work in the Jewish community) all tapped into the passion that young people of faith have to make a positive change in the world, combating society’s nervousness about the combination of youth, religion and politics.

There are just five years left to achieve the MDGs, and the upcoming UN Climate Change conference in Mexico in December will present another opportunity for world leaders to take decisive action to confront the climate challenge.

Sharon said: "Young people need to know that we can make a change, and that we have a political influence... It is important to empower young people now in order to shape a better future for tomorrow’s world."
