The Wakeup Campaign
After going to Ghana last August (2009) on a Platform2 project, Viviane Williams decided (before starting her MA at Goldsmiths University) she wanted to do some work promoting development issues; being so moved by her life-changing experience working in the African nation. This led to her development of the Wakeup Campaign.
"The Wakeup Campaign strives for equality, development and sustainability in developing and developed countries. The aim is not to dictate or force development issues onto people, instead it is to raise awareness by stimulating and awakening people visually by using design methods to develop people’s consciousness" says Viviane.
The Wakeup Campaign uses interactive, engaging techniques such as role play, design activities, craft work shops and loads more to help spread the issues of development in a social way for a sense of responsibility and duty to be conjured up; and effectively, begin to see not only change in people’s attitudes or perceptions, but begin to see actions, positive measures and steps towards a brighter future.
If you've got a free Saturday, get involved by visiting the Wakeup Campaign pop-up shop in Brixton Village Market (on most Saturdays 10am-5pm).
