I’ve been watching anger build for weeks about the G20 summit, including in myself. The paradox of 85% of the world’s power and wealth coming to London in the form of world leaders to discuss the crumbling financial system vs years, as a campaigner, telling the same world leaders that the financial system that served them so well is not working for the world’s poor is glaring.

The future’s bright, as long as the future’s green.

So the ‘Financial Fools Day’ protests were attended by thousands and seen by millions, but the spectacle it became was as useless as a stock market trader promising they’ll take care of your money.

The whole point of the day was ruined through the actions of a few, and the history books will show nothing more than a few crusty, rich-kid wankers fighting for the sake of it.

 This Wednesday, April 1st 2009, will be a protestors dream. Twenty-four hours before the leaders of the world's richest nations meet for the G20 summit in London, groups will be taking to the streets across the capital to make their message clear - Capitalism Is Not Working.  The Put People First March on Saturday was only the start!  To make sure you don't miss out on the festivities, we've compiled a list of where to be and when to be there...

"Don't forget that Sunday is Mother's Day!" scream the banners on shops and websites alike. "Show her she's special" they demand. How exactly do they recommend that you make your mum feel unique on the big day? How about buying her Take That's album for a tenner, they suggest? Why exactly she'd feel more special or unique when she owns an album that has already sold over two million copies isn't really explained.

I wouldn’t like to be a banker. Not just because it’s a boring job – designed for people who are happy to trade the idea of freedom, creativity, independence and the time for a decent social life for a big fat pay cheque. And not because everyone in Britain hates bankers now – in fact make that everyone in the world. Bankers, I would imagine, beat journalists, estate agents and traffic wardens combined for unpopularity just now. They’re more unpopular than those difficult to open juice cartons, than council parking regulations, than parental curfews and being grounded.

It doesn’t seem like a bad job. In fact, it would be near perfect for me - chilling out during the day, starting work at 4pm, being fed constantly, plenty of affection from passers by and lots of exercise. Sadly for Bangkok’s Street Elephants, I doubt they feel anywhere near as positive about their career path, for this is not a life they would have chosen.
