ONE : SIX : EIGHT : ZERO - Exhibition Preview
Going on a trip and learning about the intricacies of another culture can have a massive effect on you - and an outlet for expressing your experiences is exactly what you need when returning home. So many of us travel to the most far flung and fascinating places, and yet when we get back to our nearest and dearest, it can be seriously tough to find the words to express what you’ve been through, and what you’ve learnt.
No such problem for the latest batch of Platform2 volunteers, recently back from ten week programmes in developing countries around the world; where they spent time learning and working with global development issues like poverty and climate change. Back on English soil, all those hours of visceral experiences have been channelled into something positive, creative and inspiring.
The exhibition ‘ONE : SIX : EIGHT : ZERO’ is a multimedia catalogue of the volunteers' stories from around their trips, comprising a vibrant mix of illustration, poetry, photography and video.
Elaine Wong, curator of the exhibition and a visual arts and theatre graduate, explains: "ONE : SIX : EIGHT : ZERO (1,680) stands for the number of hours we each spent volunteering in a developing country. The artwork we have created represents those life-changing ten weeks living in local communities, our experiences - and illustrates just how far we’ve come as young people."
ONE : SIX : EIGHT: ZERO exhibition opens at Proud's Strand Gallery, 32 John Adam Street, London, WC2N 6BP, from July 21-23 - 11-7pm.
Free entry - Check it out!
