The Unmasks Corruption Comic Exhibition has legged itself up from Bristol to the city of culture, Liverpool, for a two week stint of political comica. The comic exhibition as we speak is engaging spectators with the complexity and intricate nature of corruption through popular culture. The Contemporary Urban Centre is just a ten minute walk from the City Centre and is a creative hub of music, theatre and art.

The exhibition officially opened last Monday night – over 50 people came through the doors to peruse the artwork and bag themselves a copy of the comic book anthology, watch the thought-provoking Ctrl.Alt.Shift short films, and intermittently enjoy some of the loveliest acoustic artists in Liverpool; a perfect backdrop while meandering around the exhibition.

Alex Hulme played first with his delightful covers ranging from Tracy Chapman to Jose Gonzales.

His voice soars and settles on you, irresistible likeability, singing songs with tenderness. No wonder then that he has recently been snapped up by local record label Cityscape.

Rosie Jones joined the proceedings with her guitar and token plastic cow, singing some folky acoustic numbers. Rosie says, “My music is a product of growing up with The Spice Girls, learning guitar, following Nirvana and seeing KT Tunstall in concert more times that what would be considered sane” - having supported acts such as Frank Turner she is no newbie to the scene and complemented the night perfectly.

Yuva moved to Liverpool from Israel after being offered a place at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts - Yuva hasn’t looked back since. He’s all about the hooks, that line that keeps playing around in your head and won’t let you go...

Charlie Hinchcliff wrapped up the night with some melodic truths, singing from an honest place deep within which invites you to travel with her on this little discovery. There’s a bigger force at work here, as she silenced the heart and the head.

All in all, a splendid night of live music, short films and some of the best comic strips around.
