We are pleased to announce The English National Ballet School as the winning entry for the Ctrl.Alt.Shift Dance Competition.

The five-minute piece was entered by George Williamson who choreographed eight dancers from The English National Ballet School to music supplied by GoldieLocks and Semothy Jones.

George explained the reason behind his work to Ctrl.Alt.Shift. "My choreography is about pop-culture; things fade in and out all the time. Celebrities rise and fall, iPods change and lovers are found and lost. Sometimes you have all the power, or you can be completely vulnerable. Sometimes we go about our lives on our own, other times small things we do at precise moments which almost seem like accidents, change everything. Is it purposely done or just plain fate?"

On finding out he'd won the competition, a happy George said: "The whole reason for entering this competition was to show that you can make a point using classical ballet and I am happy that it’s been recognised. Classical ballet isn’t just for ballet dancers and it was great to do something we don’t normally get the chance to do. A big part of training is that you get to dance with people all over the world and felt this added more depth to our work."

Goldielocks, who blogged about the entry a few weeks back, due to its wow factor, was also pleased to hear George had won. "I just thought it was great as I could have never imagined my music being used in that way. The beat is really industrial and hard, so to see it with really soft flowing movements over the top was quite strange, but really amazing! It also must have taken a huge amount of time to choreograph and practise, and the fact that they did it to my beat makes me feel really proud."

Having performed at Rumble Dance Festival, this weekend, George, who's in his second year at The English National Ballet School in Fulham, and has been dancing since the age of eight, is well on the way to becoming a hot new choreography talent to watch. The dancers featured are Shaun Kelly, Naoya Matsude, Marat Sydykov, Laurretta Summerscales, Chelsea Anderejic, Alice Bertschy, Lauren Crispin and Marina Takahashi.
