When's this summer of rage due to start then? You may remember - think back to those short, dark days of February - the headline in the Guardian announcing that our police were preparing for a "Summer of Rage". Yup, we were all going to be so angry about the banks, and the politicians, and the, you know, generally poor state of the world, that police were expecting us to riot in the streets. This was going to be the year of revolution, when the old orders were finally overturned and a newer, better world invented. But actually, it's strangely quiet out there.

Waiting in the shade of a large apartment, beyond the ridged line of the shadow, the mid 40s heat can be felt as if picking you out from the crowd. I watch the amazing spectacle of ordinary chaos, which is Assiut traffic. I grab my hair, wondering why I still haven't cut it.

So just weeks before he was set to complete a mammoth 50 shows at the o2 Arena, Michael Jackson has sadly, and for more his millions of fans, devastatingly, passed away. Jackson was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, L.A at about 2:26 pm on 25th June 2009.

You've got to love a proper Latin rave up. No - I'm not talking about what you might see some girls doing on MTV Base, or the vibe at some beginner's Salsa club. That's all groovy. But boy, Mr Catra's gig at Guanabara Club in London last night was just a taste of how crazy ting tings can get when Brazilians get manic on the dance floor.

Having developed national campaigns for Timberland, MTV, BBC (and many others), he's becoming a renowned contemporary artist, already a highly respected Ctrl.Alt.Shift ambassador, and a proud mentor of our BALTIC project back in February (click here for more info) which set out to raise awareness of the injustices in Columbia through art.

Village houses sit in small groupings, whereas the city apartments blocks climb above each other as if in competition. You feel the occasional drip from clothes that hang from lines on the balconies, and bright songs differentiate from shops and businesses to houses. Strips of shadow, shade from the high buildings creating blocks to walk under to escape from the rising heat. After turning off a few main roads, it seems like you're back in one of the villages, the tarmac on the road giving way to dust and pebbles.

It's easy to be careless, especially when we take so many things for granted; we lose our phone, so we buy a new one, break our ipod, and claim on insurance, rip our favourite top, and just get another.

Postcards From The Edge: Egypt - Community Schools

The community schools emerge somewhere between the other building in the villages, they sit next to small cafes, in-between small connected houses, or sometimes by themselves. They are found in between the sandy low rise house of El Khnaim, in the busy streets of Abnoob, and the other villages in the Assiut governorate. In total there are 150 schools run by association where I'm volunteering.
