Blog: Bibi van der Zee - Peace News
Next week the Peace News camp is pitching up in Oxfordshire (it seems you can’t be a political movement these days if you don’t have a camp).
Ctrl.Alt.Shift @ B'eau Pal Fake Bottled Water Stunt
Andrew Liveris, Dow's Chairman and CEO, noted that "lack of clean water is the single largest cause of disease in the world and more than 4,500 children die each day because of it."
Postcards From The Edge: Egypt - 'Inta Masr'
Every taxi journey home after a certain hour prompts the same questions. The conversations always begin with the driver asking Inta min - where I'm from. Or they ask if I'm Egyptian; "Inta masr", to which I respond "la ana min ingelltera", (no I'm English).
Postcards From The Edge: Thailand - Taxi
I gasp as another taxi swerves across our lane and makes the highway exit just in time. "Thailand!" my driver chuckles as he thrusts the lowered Toyota Corolla Altis - performance exhaust included - into third gear. Remember Wacky Races, Dick Dastardly and Muttley? Well, welcome to the roads of Bangkok and its notoriously erratic taxi drivers.
Lemmer's Rogue Report - Made in Bangladesh
I fear for one of my favourite t-shirts. It is a medium V-neck, white with a carnival-style scene depicted in charcoal printed on the front, bought for £3 in the Manchester branch of Primark, made (much to my pleasure) from 100% organic cotton. It is a good t-shirt (I can wear it with almost anything else I own) and it's a good t-shirt, being organic. But what is worrying, what is putting the fear in me, is the 'made in' sticker. I can find 'made in China,' 'made in Turkey,' 'made in Bulgaria,' and 'made in Mexico' in my other clothes. On the Primark t-shirt the label reads 'made in Bangladesh'. And the more I think about it the more it seems my innocent looking Primark t-shirt could be the source of riots halfway across the world.

The British Government is currently in the process of introducing new border controls and this, from the UK Border Agency website, is why: "The aim of the e-Borders programme is to transform our border control to ensure greater security, effectiveness, and efficiency."

Blog: Russell Myrie - heatwave
Laad jesus it's hot. When England is hotter than The Bahamas, you know it's some different kind of heat we're experiencing. The city transforms during heatwaves. When it's this hot you get the man dem stripping off just as much as the girls. Even more sometimes. The parks fill up. More alcohol is consumed. Barbecues are hastily arranged. The amount of sickies quadruples.
