Another step back for Hamid Karzai: Afghanistan's president has been criticised by senior diplomats and human rights workers for selecting a powerful warlord as his running mate in Afghanistan's presidential election. Mohammad Qasim Fahim took over as military chief of the Northern Alliance two days before the World Trade Centre attacks and is accused of involvement in criminal and arms smuggling. According to one senior diplomat, the president is "moving the country backwards."

This week, Ctrl.Alt.Shift hit the streets of Sheffield to spread the good word of the movement, soak up all the youth activist freedom-fighting talent, whilst recruiting some of our own Ctrl.Alt.Shifters from the windy city.

Our street team began by prepping for and promoting Ctrl.Alt.Shift music showcase, Justice's Call; a global development awareness and injustice-combating night set up alongside Sheffield University's Open Space Society.

Comedy - is it a good way to get an idea across? I think so. I remember jokes better than I remember a lecture. And that's why Ctrl.Alt.Shift hosted a comedy night in Leeds' Hi-Fi Club last week, to make people see that we can have a laugh at the same issues that make us question the way things are.

Shifty hit cinemas on April 24th, having already managed to catch this film at a preview earlier in the month we knew that the reviews touting it as "A strong contender for British film of the year..." weren't off the mark. We also knew that for a film that cost just under a hundred grand to make, it's not only going to make movements in the box office, it's going to reap huge rewards on all who had invested their time and effort into it.

Where was Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan, when Jacqui Smith needed him? Ms. Smith works long hours supervising police brutality, leaked memos, dodgy arrests and Gordon Brown's ego, and clearly this leaves her husband very frustrated. He is left at home, alone, with nothing but a second-hand expense account and his own restless right hand. He's in the mood, he's lonely. Two £5 'adult' movies later, Smith is in a sticky mess all because her husband wanted a little loving. With a simple piece of Shia legislation that legalises marital rape, could Jacqui's Porngate dilemma have been averted? Is this the kind of Shia law the archbishop of Canterbury believes should be integrated into common law?

Upon walking into London's theprintspace, my eyes lit up as I saw an array of spectacular customised guitars; each one graffed-up, funked-up, gleaming with sheer genius graffsmanship. As a guitar player, I felt to snatch and vanish ninja-style, until I remembered - these were up for auction, and all proceeds were going to the poorest children in Brazil. Bugger.
